December 2020 Mama Love News

A Holiday Message
As we’ve just celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States and are heading into the Christmas season, I am reminded of the importance of gratitude. Remembering the good things you might ordinarily take for granted is especially important when our lives (and in some cases, our wallets) are impacted by the threat of coronavirus and all that entails.

Some of us have had horrific experiences this past year with losing jobs, businesses, loved ones, or at least sleep due to worrying about ourselves or people we love. Others have been impacted by racial and economic injustices or the impact of climate change-induced fires, storms, and related catastrophes. And no matter what side you were on, the election year itself was certainly not free of trauma that is likely to have an ongoing impact that touches all of our daily lives for years to come.

One of the practices I was reminded of recently that might help is to get into a meditative state and ask for guidance about what benefits or gifts could come from whatever you have gone through or what we have gone through as a collective. I’ve done this more than once myself and feel quite confident that the veils that have been shredded about the inequities in our country and political process (for example) needed to happen to wake people up and impel us to make change (and to know what change needs to be made). In my personal life I have woken up to choices I made due to early life trauma that have impacted my finances ever since, and I’ve already made changes to rectify that situation. And I’ve made note of the emotional challenges that arise as I move forward because, certainly, knowledge is helpful, but insight without healing won’t take us quite as far.

As you move through your own end of year processes, be aware that we’re not over with this awakening. Most of us are still dealing with the shock of how much illusion has clouded our vision and it will take a while to sort out fact from fiction. So let pandemic restrictions serve as a time to regroup and catch our collective breath. May we be led forward from this period with grace and a new respect for the importance of love and caring for ourselves, our families, our loved ones and communities. Even for the world itself.

November 2020 Mama Love Newsletter

This month's news
News This Month
I read that 68% of the U.S. is feeling extremely stressed out about the election right now. So I made sure to write about that this month. I also put my best-selling formulas for stress on special as a set for the rest of the year. (My Election Stress Special).

And I'm moving my Comfort & Joy dram-sized oil formulas into made-on-demand status only so I put what's left of my ready-made ones on special, too. (On time for Christmas stocking stuffers if you act fast. There are only 6 left.)

For the newsletter, I also thought I'd share some insights into two single flower essences that are surprisingly popular in my shop lately: Hawthorn and Pomegranate.

Stay Grounded the Rest of This Election Year with Mama Love!
Like most people, my mind is on the upcoming election. I feel, more or less, optimistic and yet WELL aware of the dangerous polarities present in our nation that are likely to erupt not long after election day, no matter which way it goes.
Why Are So Many People Asking for Hawthorn Flower Essence Lately?

About a week or two ago I asked for help/ guidance on what flower essence to take for feeling like I don't have the energy to do what I'm looking forward to doing/am afraid of doing in the next few weeks.  Read more . . .
Pomegranate Flower Essence for Mothers Working at Home During the Pandemic
I wasn't thinking about Pomegranate Flower Essence in terms of what people might be going through these last few months but right now it's one of biggest sellers in my shop! So what is it for? Read more . . .

How are you doing?
Let's keep this intro short and sweet. A number of things were brought to my attention this month based on what people have written to me about or ordered in my shop. I thought it important to write this month about how to handle patterns of behavior that DO respond to flower essences but come back when you stop taking them. (That's not how they're supposed to work so let's address that situation!) I also wrote about trouble trusting your fellow man or woman, the importance of tapping into nature for deep support, and adaptogen teas for stress reduction.

What to Do If a Pattern Keeps Returning When Using Flower Essences
Sometimes I notice that a customer orders the same product over and over again. And I have had the experience of returning to the same flower essences over and over in my life. Some of that is to be expected. After all, new traumas occur, old traumas get re-triggered. But most issues clear up MUCH quicker than that. What's going on?

Trouble Trusting Your Fellow Man or Woman? Oregon Grape Flower Essence

I had a challenging situation come up late last week—something that shook my feeling of security in the world for fear of what someone in a bad state of mind might do. I didn't see it coming—I had not done anything wrong—but someone else did and I had made a choice based on trusting them.  Read more

Adaptogen Herb Tea for Stress Reduction
Because I wrote about how mental health has been suffering for so many people in my last blog postherb tea that might help came to mind. Adaptogen teas to be specific because what makes this category of herbs so interesting to me is that it helps your body adapt to stress in the way that is needed. That means it might act differently for people who need one thing than for those who need another. Read more . . .

Learning to Rest, Not Quit
There's this meme I happen to love using this image by Banksy and words often attributed to him that say "If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit." Did he actually say that? Who knows? But I like the sentiment because too much of the time we get rewarded in this society for pressing on and on in an unrelenting way until something falls apart or you quit. Read more . . .

Lots of Thoughts and a Little News
Another month that inspired a lot of writing! But even though I can't seem to help but be somewhat topical these days, I've also done a lot of exploration into flower essences, how they work, what can happen when the feelings you have about today and tomorrow intersect with trauma from earlier in your life, and then some.

But first some news that may impact my international customers. Because of the Covid-19 crisis all international flights from the U.S. have been severely cut back. I've been seeing shipping delays of more than a month; other Etsy sellers report 8 week delays. And some shipments have not arrived at all. So, until this situation changes, I'm not offering international shipping except within North America in my Etsy shop. If a customer wants to take the risk and pay for insurance, I'm willing to make an exception . . . but I don't know that I recommend it. I'm so sorry.
The Difference Between Larch and Gentian Flower Essence
Gentian is for people who have suffered a setback and feel pessimistic and discouraged about their future. A lot of people are experiencing that right now! But people who need Larch also tend to feel discouraged about their future and lack the confidence to try new things as a result. So what's the difference?
Using Flower Essences for Lifelong Issues

Typically when someone chooses a Bach Flower Remedy they are not thinking about what "type" of person they are—they just want relief for what ails them today! But when you dig a lot deeper into this system of healing you will find people attempting to work with lifelong issues that they see as a character flaw, something innate that they wish to work with, eliminate, or at least move beyond.  Read more . . .

When Flower Essences Reveal What's Underneath
When the time doesn't seem right to deal with a particular distress right away, your psyche will resort to defense mechanisms so you don't have to. Maybe it would disrupt your life too much or force you to feel feelings you really can't face. So your psyche hands you a feeling that might be easier to handle. But what happens when you decide to address THAT feeling?

Hello Everybody!
New Flower Essence in My Shop and Some Old Favorites
This past month I found myself longing to be somewhere else. Based on my Facebook feed, I'm sure some of you can relate! So I wondered if there might be a flower essence for that and was led to Prickly Pear! (An essence I had never tried that was on my shelf but not in my shop.) So I did an experiment and I think it might just be perfect for those trying to figure out how to adapt to uncertain and changing times.

This month I also took a look at some old favorites I want to introduce to new people on my list. Did you know Mama Love started with just 12 products that combined flower essences and essential oils in a light "perfume-like" oil? Weird, huh? Most of my products these days are unscented! But I still love those older ones and still make them so I'm sharing a bit about those and also about a single flower essence I wish I could get people to use—I'd spray it on whole communities right now if I could! (But I won't—I'll just tell you what it's about instead.)
Prickly Pear Flower Essence for Being in the Present Moment More Adaptably
Have you ever felt homesick for a place you've never been? The Germans have a word for that: Fernweh. It means “farsickness”—dreaming for something or someplace that is too far to get back to or has never actually existed for you (outside of a storybook or movie). The Welsh have a similar concept, called Hiraeth, that extends the idea to longing or nostalgia, even incompleteness to the point of obsession. This, again, could be for a place you've never been but it could also be about loss that makes it hard to connect with where you currently are as "home."
Flower Essences and Essential Oils Combined Makes Healing Fun

Fifteen years ago when I first started Mama Love I never dreamed that the bulk of my business would be unscented flower essence dropper bottles and sprays. The hardest challenge I faced in those days was helping people understand what flower essences were at all! On the other hand, essential oils had definitely entered the mainstream, and after a fair bit of experimentation I started my business with a line of 12 scented oils combined with flower essences which still account for most of the wholesale sales I make to retail stores. Read more . . .
Is the Time Right For Tiger Lily Flower Essence?
A friend on Facebook just posted photos of Tiger Lilies in full bloom. It's Tiger Lily time on the central coast of California! Does that mean it might be time to use Tiger Lily Flower Essence as well? I hope so. Read more . . .
